CONTESTS CALL ATTENTION TO NATIONAL ORTHODONTIC HEALTH MONTH

(ISSUED FALL 2012) — October is National Orthodontic Health Month. To heighten awareness about the importance of ‘a good bite’ and a beautiful smile – and to add fun to their patients’ treatment regimen, Dr. Andrew Chase and Dr. Robert Chavez of ARCH Orthodontics sponsored two contests:

• Back-to-School Bookmark Contest –  The winning design was created by Mary Thompson, of Canton who won a $50 iTunes gift card. A few thousand copies are being distributed to patients and local libraries. The bookmark front carries Mary’s design – an acrostic using the word ‘hygiene’ on a toothpaste tube. The back shows ARCH’s ‘Rule of 5’s’ – an oral hygiene formula for people with patients devised by Dr. Chavez.

• ‘Take Your Smiles on Vacation’ Photo Contest — The winning photo was submitted by William Sullivan, age 11 of Bridgewater, standing next to a lifelike shark bearing its huge teeth at Six Flags Park in NJ. William won an iPad. More than 50 patients submitted entries showing them on vacation, while wearing their ARCH t-shirts.

Just in time for Halloween, ARCH has posted on its website (http://www.sesameblogs.com/archorthodontics) a list of  ‘Ortho-Friendly Treats’ (milk shakes, ice cream) and “Treats to Avoid’ (caramel, jelly beans). Also on the site: ‘Braces-Friendly Halloween Recipes’ including Frightful Finger Cookies and Scary Jigglers.

For the third year, to kick off National Orthodontic Health Month, ARCH was named the ‘Official Orthodontist of Miss Massachusetts.’ In September, Miss Mass. 2012 Taylor Kinzler of Lakeville visited ARCH’s Stoughton office.
